Something for Everyone!
Hello NYTC,
I hope this week is treating you well and some of you have managed to see more of your friends as the lockdown conditions are eased. Hopefully there will be some more positive moves soon. As performers, our job is to find ways to ensure the show must go on. One of the gifts the performing arts gives us is to teach us invaluable life lessons whether we go on to have a career in the arts, or whether it is a lifelong hobby or a wonderful experience for now. One key gift is resilience and this week I am hoping to help develop it in you!
I am not sure if all of you are getting my emails as I see the same faces every week and have definitely missed seeing you all. When Josh and I talk about what we can do online we are always flummoxed by the problem that many of you have not joined us. We don’t know if you are not getting the emails, have got the emails and want to join us but are uncomfortable with zoom, have got the emails and want to join us but cannot access the internet, have got the emails but don’t want to join us, or have lost interest and each of those would need a different response from us!
Anyhow there are two things I would ask from all of you…..
1. I have been reviewing the tuck and wanted to know which of the items in tuck you absolutely love and any you think should or could be included as you would deffo buy them. Remember they need to be sold for 50p- £1
2. Hopefully, I have included something for everyone.
Please do at least one of the following:
A Prepare a monologue (solo piece of speech from a play) to perform live on zoom.
B Prepare a monologue (solo piece of speech from a play) and send me a video of you performing it.
C Prepare a monologue as if it was in a radio play (think about sound effects) and send me a recording of it.
D Prepare a poem to perform live on zoom.
E Prepare a poem and send me a video of you performing it.
F Prepare a poem as if it was to be performed on the radio and send me a recording of it.
G Prepare a 2-4 minute presentation on either video or radio about your favourite musical. Your task is to convince your audience why they should see the musical. You can incorporate songs from the show into your presentation.
H Prepare a presentation suitable for social media. Your task is to convince your audience why they should join NYTC. You can incorporate photos from rehearsals in your presentation.
I Prepare a piece of prose (reading aloud) to perform live on zoom.
J Prepare a piece of prose (reading aloud) and send me a video of you performing it.
K Prepare a piece of prose (reading aloud) as if it was to be performed on the radio and send me a recording of it.
L Prepare a speech suitable for ‘The Unbelievable Truth’ on Radio 4 in which you state some ridiculous ‘facts’ about a topic but have to slip in 4 real truths. Your audience’s task is to detect the truths. Your task is to hide them. You get a point for every truth you manage to slip by them. They get a point for every truth they find.
